HAPPY ST.GEORGES DAY.....

I think it is allowed, after all the man was a Roman soldier from Turkey, so its a great example of multiculturalism.

LOL , yes they can't get us on that one ! but does anyone on here celebrate it in any way at all......have we ever........and in what ways ? i grew up in Wales so my englishness was never flouted.

And that is a good point after all British is a real mix.........my last name is french/german...........saxons, vikings, roman etc we are a rich mixture, later afro carrabian and asian and i guess now with polish, romainian, slovs etc etc it's going to be an even bigger mix.

I guess though unless 'you say we are british born' or your parents, grandparents had strong culture or religion your cultural background will be celebrated 1st untill your family line 'blends' in and marries into other cultures backgrounds along the ages. Unless you have very strong religious veiws that say you must marry the same faith.

I used to do the St Georges Day Parade when I was in the cubs as a lad, but that is it.

I always find it odd that the english go out and get wankered on St Patricks Day, but ignore our own saints day (and St Andrew and St Davids day for that matter too). The cynic im my thinks it is down to Guiness planting the idea in our heads just to sell more sweet, sweet booze.

Me too. I never really saw the point. I remember alway wanting to do the Rememberence Day Parade as even then understood the sacrafices made, but St George?

He would be in all sorts of trouble these days. CITES would have in court in an instant. If I'm asked I tend to say I'm British. If pushed I will tell them I'm Devonian.

Perhaps with the UK having such diversity and accents etc, WE should concentrate more locally on celebrations as the st.cross just seems to be associated with nationalism and bad things. We have a spa day here where all local history is celebrated inc the Romans that were here.

What a load of arse!

On this day...

1983 Canadian snooker player Cliff Thorburn completed the first televised maximum break of 147 during the World Snooker Championships at the Crucible Theatre, in Sheffield.

I'm going to celebrate that.

al. :D
