I have pulleys up in the ridge of the roof. Tie a nylon rope around the front rim* and hoist away. You need a cleat to wrap the other end of the rope once the bike is up there.

*a half blood knot won't slip

can massively recommend the pedal holder from halfords etc. £7 and easy as pie! went with the nail in the wall to hold the front wheel where i wanted it
