Handbuilt lightweight with Campag / Cinelli groupset £250

Like my Peugeot which is for sale on another thread, this is a reluctant sale as it's a 60cm/23.5 inch frame, I'm only 5'8" and those two things have proved sadly incompatible.

It's been lovely to own it, to try and work out what it is, but at the end of the day it can only sit in my friend's garage for so long, and I need to replace my car with something not quite so ancient.

It's easier to tell you what this bike isn't, than what it is.

It's not a Cinelli, don't be misled by the stickers, they were added by a previous owner. However it *does* have Cinelli Criterium bars and stem, and a Cinelli logo and serial number on the bottom bracket. Hard to tell exactly what, as the top part of the letters and numbers has been rubbed off, but it seems to me OB?? 220230 04

It was fairly common for Cinelli to supply bottom bracket shells to independent frame makers - hence the best guess about what he really is. The lugwork has been praised by many people though.

Someone on the forum thought it was made by Dave Marsh in Maltby - I phoned Dave and sent him some pictures and he said he couldn't be certain, but was quite possible. If so, it would have been made with Reynolds 531 tubing.

I can't prove that, but it's proper double-butted stuff - you can tell by the different sounds it makes when you ping it in the middle and at the ends - and the fact that weighs 9.5kg on my digital luggage scales, which is 700g lighter than a bike made from Reynolds 501.

Front derailleur is Shimano Golden Arrow, rear derailleur Campagnolo Nuovo Record, gear levers are Campagnolo Triomphe or Victory.

Seatpost is Campagnolo, chainset (52/42) and cranks are Campagnolo Gran Sport (although one may be Record). Pedals are Union. I can't remember what brand the tyres are, but they look decent.

Handlebars are cut-off Cinelli Criterium turned upside-down (don't blame me, I didn't to it!) and the stem appears to be a Cinelli with the badge having fallen out of it.

Hubs are Pelissier (one skewer says Pelissier P3003, I think the other says Mavic). Front rim is Mavic MA-2, rear hub is unlabelled but looks similar. Nice and true, I'm not an expert but they look in pretty good nick.

Front and rear brakes are Weinmann Type 500 - I did buy some beautiful mint condition Gipiemme Crono Sprint brakes for £25 but never got round to fitting them, I'll sell you those at cost if you want them.

Saddle is a San Marco Concor Light, not in brilliant condition.

The frame is in good cosmetic condition having been resprayed, there are a couple of scars on the forks and the frame - please see photos for details - and a small dent in the right hand seat stay that I'm advised somewhere like Mercian would sort out for £20.

All in all a lovely retro bike, which has been admired by many people - to me it feels like a thoroughbred. I'm selling for £250 as that's a rough estimate of what all the parts would sell for if I broke it, but I hope someone will give it a good home, and get some proper use out of it.

Re:

PS - I'm in South Manchester - bike could be collected from Chorlton, Salford Quays or Leigh.
