gypsy blood

this documentary certainly doesnt glamourise them
That, unfortunately, is a perspective thing. To many, perhaps the programme's main demographic, this programme probably will glamourise the lifestyle(s) depicted.

The most poignant aspect, to me, were the effects on the children, not that it's so hugely suprising, it isn't - more that your eyes aren't normally so drawn to it. There's a point in it, where the older of Fred's sons is in the back of his car (seemingly and notably not wearing any belts or restraints - I guess it must be so important for them to brandish uncomformity at every point) who's being told off for crying, and the camera is focused on his breaking emotion.

I know there's traditions, and all, but the main two male characters seemed so focused on violence and fighting, but not just themselves, were raising their children with such focus - I just thought that was ultimately tragic and anachronistic. I'm no stranger to pugilism, and I think for my kids, hopefully having some organised and structered pugilism in their lives - so long as it's their choice - can be a very positive thing. Not so they can become violent, though, so that they can pursue something physically challenging, yet also involve intelligence, so they can have some degree of physical confidence, and perhaps of most importance, so that they've learned self-control so they don't become violent.

Lots of non-gypsies refuse to wear seat belts and don't put them on their children, and use their mobile phones, and smack / bully their children.

And lots of non-gypsies take their kids to the gym teach them to box etc etc.

Is this turning into the 'white Christians vs the gypsies' or something ?

I like these Gypsies.....

There was more to the fighting and violence than that. Have you watched the programme?

Only for those where there's no bandwagon too slow.

Yup I watched the program all the way through and you ?

Not understand what your trying to say about 'bandwagons' ? sorry don't understand, i don't do cryptic just plain speaking please.

I don't see what all the fuss is about, you get toe rags fighting on every street in the UK on fri/sat nights with no rules at all, at least the Gypsies try to stick to a 'fair fight' 99% of the time. That's more honorable than most of the fights i've witnessed. 10 on 1, knives...blah blah...good on them for trying to settle their differences that way, instead on burning someones house down etc like the little cowards of today do.

Here's a film about it

How much heritage do all of them actually have? To the romanians.

Not seen the program, it does interest me though as it is essentially another culture whether we like it or not.

Kind of neautral as there is good and bad to it - but how much travelling do they actually do haha!

Um, quite clearly I did, because I made comments about things specifically in it?

It was you who raised white christians vs gypsies, not me.

It was more about a culture of fighting and violence that the kids were being indoctrinated in, rather than a multi-faceted physical culture that kids are given the option of.

You talk about other groups in society being violent - I wouldn't disagree. Whether the evolution of children in those sorts of environments has the same degree of active intent about violence and fighting when they grow up, or whether it's more passive, I can't be sure.

But from where I'm sat, it was the focus, the indoctrination, the pathology of it all.

That, and there bloody is a big gypsy bandwagon at the moment.

Like many have said, plenty can be apologists, talk about tradition, a different way of life - but others, mere passengers in the whole thing still suffer, when living near such communities.

you asked if i watched it..........i merely asked you the same question.......don't know what all the quoting is for  my opinion is based on meeting these people on a weekly basis on 4 separate sites, not because i'm on a bandwagon of thought.

Roll your eyes all you want, but all that quoting you mention, is your words, in context, that I'm replying to.

And I'm sure plenty of people responding to this thread have had some kind of experience with "travellers" or gypsies, too.
