gun rampage in cumbria.....

If after this, they still allow people to have high power rifles in there own homes and shotguns (sure farmers/gamekeepers need shotguns but do Taxi drivers  ) then there is little hope of preventing this happening yet again.

Ban everything bar small bore target guns and shotguns but restrict these to draconian levels. If a person 'wants' a gun this earns them an automatic suspiscion from the law and the real chance of a life ban.

Sure people kill people not guns but horrific incidents of this nature are not possible without guns.

My thoughts lie with those affected by this horror !!!!!!!!!

We already have the strictest gun laws in the world. The weapons used from what I heard were both legally owned, a shotgun and a .22 rifle. .22 Rifle is a small bore firearm. High powered rifles are hugely restricted in terms of who can use them. Most other fire arms are out right ilegal.

To be honest this is a horrible thing that wasnt helped by the availability of fire arms to the nut job that did it. But I dont feel the already super tight laws we have need to be made tighter. I dont own a gun, I dont hunt, but I do see it target shooting/clay shooting as legitimate and interesting sports. I would hate to see them outlawed by rushed reactionary laws. Just because I dont see any need to tighten the law doesnt mean I want to see current law relaxed however.

Thoughts to the people involved & touched by this moment of madness.

This was, certainly at first, a cold calculated murderer. If you're that determined to go out and kill people you will, be it by getting guns by legitimate means or otherwise. To blame this on the availability of rifles is, in my opinion, wrong. I own a rifle and know many other people who do, all perfectly level headed people who have had to jump through ever decreasing hoops to allow them to continue with their hobby or control pests on their land, or both. After Hungerford, semi automatic rifles were banned, after Dunblane handguns were banned. I know people who shot handguns for sport who were left thousands of pounds out of pocket because of one nutter and the governments subsequent ban, which to my mind isn't fair. If someone went on a killing spree with a cricket bat would they ban cricket? I don't think so!

This was a tragic horrible act committed by a person who was evidently hell bent on killing innocent people, these things don't happen every day and should be treated as such. My thoughts are with those affected.

We may have the strictest firearms laws in the world but the wrong people still get FAC's...

People who have been sectioned with a history of violence, for instance... one with a conviction for whatever the legal term for threatening someone by holding a pistol to their temple is called....

I was considering getting my FAC but chose not to for all the right reasons.

I was a member of a gun club. Salt of the earth people. It's a sport with great skill. And team GB did have an excellent group of people who got many medals.
The people that do this kind of murder are not gun club people. The police are meant to check these gun owners and certainly in the case of the Hungerford shooting they certainly failed in their duty of care to the public. And could have taken the guns off him.

You could make the gun laws tighter and ban ALL guns, air, shot,22 etc BUT it still wont stop gun crime of any type. If only if would.

There's still a lot of news vans in town now, here's hoping they've gone soon. It's a strange place to be in at the moment, everyone is in total shock of what's happened.
