GT Zaskar 1997 – Build Thread ❤️💛

Dirt Disciple
A cult classic of the ’90s. The poster bike a whole generation rode in their heads. So I picked up a ’97 Zaskar for the collection – one of those bikes you just should have.

I’m usually a polished-alu guy, but the red anodized frame got me this time. Not that common, and this one popped up on KleinAZ in Dresden. Seller was reasonable, we shook hands. Picked it up on the way back from Bespoked (with the usual comments from my mate who only rides modern stuff… standard).

Still Handmade in USA, just with that slightly more modern stance. Classic, but properly rideable.

For the fork, I wanted that red frame + yellow fork combo. Always liked the contrast. And the Judy SL was actually specced on the higher Zaskar LE back then, so it felt right. I also found the fork on KleinAZ in Germany about a week after I started looking. Bought it straight away and had it shipped to my German parcel box – and from there directly to my suspension guy, not even home first.

Fork is rebuilt now. It almost got lost by the courier on the way back to me (because of course…), but it eventually turned up. Proper happy ending.

Wheels? I’ll keep that to myself for now – but I think they’re going to sit just right. I’ll share soon.

Looking forward to the first spin.
