Hi there,

Well this is my very first post on Retro ..I was directed here by a new contact/friend (Hi Adam) to look at a road bike, which has caught my interest.

I am into classic 70/80's Time Trial bikes, and with a current stable of 23 bikes and 13 frames..am having a thin out of odd Bikes/Frames etc..which are too big..too small..too new..or otherwise.

I have a GT Xizang hanging in my Garage, I bought it around 10/11 years ago off the original owner, with a view to ride it on the road with Slicks thinking i'm too old to ride a skinny saddle machine with skinny tyres again.

The original owner told me it cost him around £3,500?? not sure if that was true?

I tried it with Slicks last year, but finally got back on a road bike last March following a 27 year total lay off.

Sorry to waffle, as my first post just wanted to give some background.

Around 15 years ago..my buddy had a GT Zaskar LE...and said it hurt is back as it was a bit harsh (on the road) so I tried it..and it was murder...hence me finding the Ti Xizang..for rigidity..and a degree of comfort. (awesome)

Anyway..a bit more about the Bike, to the best of my ability that is..i'm a roadie remember.

I bought the bike..the owner having stripped it's forks (Rockshok Sid's?) off and fitted some rigid Steel forks..

I took the Bike to a local Bike shop in Norwich, mountain bike specialists..and asked them to go through it and bring it up to scratch..which included;

Re-build wheel (with Matching New Blue Hope hub to match other wheel, they did away with the Titanium spokes, telling me they stretch...

They fitted a brand New XT chainset..I asked for XTR but they said XT was lighter? I think new XT Brake calipers too...

Can't rember what else they did but Bill was over £500.00.I asked them about rigid Fork options..but they said the bike was nicely balanced..and to leave as is..unless I was going off road ( I wasn't!).

They were excited at the time becasue the Bike has these Paul's front and Rear Mech's?..
(just found a guy on the bay selling a rough pair for££ How much!!

It's ( I think) a 19" frame...

I realise I need to give more info..and Photo's.if it actually stops raining here..I will try to do this tomorrow..although I have no idea how to upload Photo's to a website...

If it's worth very little..then I may as well keep it..but looking for advice?

Sorry for the over-long opening post guy's..

Thanks in advance

James

Hi IBIF,

Many thanks for the welcome, and for the advice..I have a huge knowledge base on Classic road bike's.but know very little about Mountain Bikes...

Only recently I discoverd GT made a Road Frame in Ti..now that would be just the ticket..having ridden Ti..it really is sublime...

Can't belive how much those Pauls Mechs make???

Found some black ones on the Bay..but mine are anodized in different colours..

This Bike weighs less than my original 1983 TT bike...mad.

Hi Hb,

Well, I must admit..the Gt hangs in my Garage..at the very back of most of my road bikes..and I have not had a close look at it in a long (at least 3 years) time, but the 'Pauls' on ebay are just black.. but these are anodised..well..to be honest..Rasta colour is kind of what they are..

It would seem you know just what they are?

Guy on ebay is asking £203 and £150 for some well used Black Pauls!! holy moly.....

I guess I had better paste the details of my Xizang in the whats it worth section as suggested above...

I have seen plenty of Tig welding on Ti bike frames..whilst some may approach the Gt's sublime welding..it's for certain none surpass....

Now If I could find a GT Ti roadbike...that would soften the blow of losing this beauty....

Hi, if you wanting to sell for top dollar, pop it on ebay. If you wanting top-top dollar, split it and put it on ebay.

If you just wanting to sell on and avoid the hassle/dross/cost of ebay, google a few parts in the for sale forum to guide price, and put up an ad.

Sounds like you have something quite tasty, beware of vultures..
