Hmmm… No dents or cracks to speak of??? That weld on the drive-side dropout ain't lookin' to the standard of the others :?

No idea except Xizang were US made I believe, whereas Lightning I think weren't. Xizang has butted tubing - Lightning is plain gauge. I think the alloy is different too.

Lightning ain't no Xizang

What's so good about a Xizang? I've got a '92 and I wouldn't say it was an exceptional ride. Are later ones better?

Well let's count the Xizang goodness....
1) American made out of American made tubing in vintagedom and collectorhood that seems to matter to most.
2) One of the winningest of all time mountain bike frames.
3) Very nice compliant forgiving ride that doesn't rattle your fillings out like most rigid aluminum frames
4) Non corrosive
5) Light
6) Will last a lifetime if you treat it like a bike and not a plane
7) Great looking hand polished finish that's easy to maintain

Judging by the number of posts you've made I'm just guessing that you haven't ridden or owned enough bikes to compare the Xizang ride with other bikes....unless of coarse your setup and frame size aren't correct or fit properly.

Xizang produced from 90-99, built on GT's jigs in the USA from Sandvik tubing at Sandvik which later became Titanium Sports (TST....don't believe the Litespeed and Longmont built www rumors),
Hand Polished finish all years except 1999 when painted white.

Lightning was only produced as a complete bike in 1997 and 98. Frame welded and final assembly completed in Taiwan with American made tubing with mid level spec. Bead Blasted finish both years.

Both frames are very similar in weight and made of 3Al/2.5V titanium.
