On my old rts-2 I had that set up from new. It wasn't very good so I replaced the roller with a rocker (suntour power hanger iirc, but others exist), it made a huge difference to the braking.

Very true lots of people went with vee brakes and maguras too, cutting off the roller completely!

I have another frame here waiting too be built I managed too find an original roller this time.
