Ok so I'm buying this frame today. (I know it's a '96 model and this is the 98+ section, I just feel suspension bikes getter a better reception down here and I will receive more/better advice) For starters I want this bike to be a rider, so no garage queen here but I want a good blend of retro/slash performance. I also want to keep the weight down as much as possible so will be going with V-Brakes over discs.

What I'm after from you guys is inspiration for things such as fork choice, parts to use etc. Also if anyone has anything that may be suitable for the build don't be afraid to speak up! Everything considered. Also if anyone has any positive/negative experiences with these bikes feel free to share!

I loved my '97 which was ran as a trail bike with 4" Marz dropoffs, steering felt good so I'd probably say 100-130mm max? Are you planning on using it for DH or as a trail bike? I don't have much full sus experience but the back end felt super plush and pedalling wasn't as bad as you'd expect :)

Very short TT though although seat tube angle helps with that, very BMXy

BETD used to do needle bearing kits, may still but haven't looked

This was mine: http://www.bikeradar.com/forums/viewtop ... t=12536291

This will be a trail bike too.....most of the time! Although I never shy away from a DH run or 5!!! Haha. I'm thinking a 70mm stem to combat the short top tube although I can't see it being too much of a problem. I come from a BMX, dirtjump, DH back ground and have had all sorts under me haha!! Yours looks mint!!

Yeah, I think with the way they ride they encourage you to throw them about so the short TT never bothered me too much even at 6'2 lol

They were old photo's, it got polished and went single ring along with nicer finishing kit. Then I cracked a chainstay and kinda lost heart. I miss that bike more than any other :(

Yeah the LTS is renowned for weak chainstays.....
I'm unsure about what forks to go for ...... Guess I need to get my old Dirt Magazines out for inspiration from BITD hahaha

When I got mine it had Zzyzxx on......they went straight in the bin lol. If it was mine i'd go with Bombers for function's sake but guess you could look for some Judy DH or DHO's or some of the early XVerts?

I'm half considering some modern forks like Reba's, air sprung 120mm travel but with decals of older Rock Shox Judy DH's. Simply for the looks of it....but it still it needs to ride well!

Not a bad idea actually, thinking about it my Recons @ 130mm would probably match the rear nicely

I'm suprised there aren't more people posting in here lol

Haha maybe they're all at work! Rare mid-week day off for me! I think anything between 100-130mm travel will work. I just want to keep the weight down, so air sprung may be better. XTR M950 everywhere lol
