Groupset Advice.

I have a frame from 1993 (I think). Steel and handmade. I want to start accumulating a groupset for it and was wondering what to go for. M900 would be the benchmark most will probably suggest. It was horribly expensive BiTD and probably still is? I was thinking maybe going down the XT M735 route. This would be time correct and one of my favourite set of components. I have just cleaned up my old XT rear mech in readiness to fit to my son's new Islabike (well, would you want a Tourney if you were five?) and it has polished to a mirror finish.

What is the relative availability of the two groupsets? The bike will be ridden so I'm not looking for NOS, just clean tight components. Is XTR worth the extra?

I'd go XT myself, functions as well as XTR. Not every bike produced BITD had a full XTR groupo.

Hi,

I have a pair of m900 levers in great condition also 2 sets of cantis, missing the springs though!

You can have the lot for 30 pounds posted?

See you only need everything else!

Cheers,Al

XTR was first released in 1995 so would not be quite right for the bike. It would be nice though if you can find it! :)

er - '95??? it was already at least 2 years old by then.

took me ages to track down a decent XT chainset with black rings, can take ages and a lot of screaming at the postman...

I hadn't realised that it was released that early. The information I had must be incomplete then.

On the subject of XT I've just managed to get some M730 cranks and rings BNIB. I don't really want the rings as I can't get on with biopace so I've got a set of rings knocking about.
