Grey coloured tub' tape ?

Yup..Advance tapes have moved on a bit from making tub tape. I suspect it wasn't a big enough market to carry on with....bigger fish to fry.

Their logo used to be (I assumed) a tub + rim cross section :D

Sadly it's toned down a bit now, so It just looks like a roll of tape and an arrow...oh well:

Just Velox Jantex and Tufo making tub tape these days. Personally I prefer Tufo as it's very easy to use with a plastic backing tape, and sticks like s**t to a blanket. It's pricey, though compared to Jantex.

At least Jantex now has a better white slightly plasticky backing tape, rather than the terrible yellow tape which would tear at least 3 times per tyre while trying to peel it out from under the tub...

All the best,

So it was called Advance! I will rest now.

I think I still have one of the black plastic containers in the shed - it might even have some tape still in it!

Does this tub tape work when the rim or spare tub is wet and you need to change it?

The modern continental tub glue is good for sticking the first tub on, but looses its tack and goes hard. The 80's stuff always seemed to remain tacky and the spare would always seem to stick.

Remembering back I used this stuff on my TT bike and also my winter hack bike and it never went rock hard and remained sticky.

It was bloody good stuff!

Re:

I picked up some of the old advanced stuff a year or two back from a shop clearout.

It really was better than the jantex stuff, but from what i was told, it was withdrawn from sale because there was something carcinogenic in it

Anyways, real men "glue"

am afraid the story about it being carcinogenic are true and that is why it was removed from sale.apparently there was 2 or 3 members of staff who made it got cancer and I think there was a rather large compo deal for them.it was great stuff and I always used it to stick tubs on my mavic carbon TT wheels at the time

I think it was made in Leicester or that area
