You are of course entitled to your opinion.

Clapton did indeed survive, and went on to prove his worth.

Say no more.

Hendrix did it all in a few years. Tragedy aside, he already assured his place in the immortal realms of the genii.

Clapton is the first to admit Hendrix and he are not even in the same league.

I'm not a guitarist but everyone I know who does play seriously says the same thing.

The Darkness - Love is only a feeling

But seriously, 4 pages and no mention of Yngwie M
or Paul Gilbert
Alexi Laiho
Buckethead
Dragonforce!

Regarding Chilli Peppers, Dave Navarro was the only guitar player worth his salt

The ability to play notes in rapid succession, with little regard for the integrity of the song itself, doesn't seem to be a major criteria for most of the people who posted so far.

Respect to the technical ability of all those guys. But only one to make my cut would be Dave Navarro.

I thought this was about riffs of the last 10 years?

Yngwie M = doesn't do riffs.

Paul Gilbert - if you slate him as a widdlemerchant then you probably haven't given him a fair chance. He's come up with some incredible riffs (Addicted To That Rush?) and wonderfully melodic solos (Just Take My Heart, Girls That Can Read Your Mind). Though he is guilty of widdly excess too.

If you want riffage from that era then you should be looking at Extreme's "Pornograffitti" album.

But the last 10 years? The Darkness, "Black Shuck". That's one of the greatest rock riffs ever IMHO.
