the warriers

twin peaks (technically not a film but you know what i mean)

waynes world and bill n teds...........

The Godfather has some classics. Are we talking about music written for a movie or movies which include already recorded songs?

Hows about Dirty Dancing? music fits the movie and era perfectly.

Boogie Nights! great music throughout, really well used in some fantastically abstract contexts (Jethro Tull 'Fat man' for instance)

'Demon Seed' was excellent, featuring Zappa and Beefhearts' Ian Underwood iirc

Zappa wrote some good uns but I can't remember for which films?

Goodfellas. Captured the era perfectly.

Scorsese is masterful with music.

Casino is up there too.

A Fistful Of Dynamite (Duck You Sucker)

The Good, The Bad And The Ugly

Deathwish II

The Graduate

Lots of great films with great music.

Amelie (as already mentioned a couple of times) and how about Top Gun for that cheesy bit of retro-pop-rock?
