82' standard team mongoose is what it was - well that was the answer to a question of "what bike frame is this ?" asked by a member on Raleighburner.com
the photo's show a bike frame that had seen better days and a mish-mash of parts - CW style bars with a couple of dents in the cross bars - tange copy fork that bent the wrong way - odd wheels and press metal calipers
Well i pm'd him and asked if he wanted to sell the frame ! - cut a long time and story short is was a swap for some mags with a bit of cash and some brake cables and decals throw in for free - so a meet up was done in the middle of a freezing day at tesco's car park - looked so dodgy handing over bmx parts
I did ask if he could not touch/clean the frame in any way, so I could do it in my own way
so i got it home and had a look over it and it was covered in grease ans even had a feather on it ? must be a goose then ! - surface rust and pitting all over the frame - a couple of marks on one side of the gusset - and a couple of scrapes on the frame
Before i got it
before / what it looked like when i got it
Now after 10 hours of polishing over 3 days in different stages to get it up - it now looks like this
Now there are still marks and some small pitting in places, i think that adds a touch of class to a frame that is 29 years old and still can turn out like this
- now i just gotta find some forks to go with it
cheers B
