Getting retro tyres re-made

Plus, keep in mind that most "performance" oriented tires are selling for about $45 in the US which is half again as much as our TimbukIIs.

And watch out since the prices are going up quickly. Our wholesale prices are up about 25% this year on rubber so it isn't going to get any better.

There are plenty of companies out there still producing amber wall tyres but not for 26" wheels in the knobbly variety, so why can't we lobby some of them to try to get them to produce some of their current off road tyres (no need for a new design or re-design) including an amber wall (also no need to change much as they are doing it with other tyre sizes)

Just a thought

You'll still have to meet a minimum quantity of 300-500 tires for most companies to run them which is a big investment. They tires would also be more expensive than other currently available tires since the quantity ordered would be small. So you need to find a lot of people willing to pay more for a currently available tire just to get a natural side wall plus someone to front the money to get them made. Is there enough interest out there?

mm tough call, well I guess we could do a poll. There are a lot of members on this site, and new ones joining everyday, although most of them seem just to be trying to sell their old bikes off at high prices

Would it be worth trying to contact a manufacturer to try and convince them that there is a market for them rather than actually trying to place an order?

I reckon that if they were able to produce them at the same price or slightly inflated then there would be an even bigger market.

How many people on here own bikes that are themselves not old, but have a retro feel to them that would ride an amber wall modern tyre, as well as actually on an older bike?????
