Getting fed up with flat hunting now!

I am sick to the back flaming teeth of these 'everything-fu*king-fitted-in' flats for rent, fitted kitchens, fitted wardrobes, all white-goods-included, blah blah blah -WE DON'T FLAMING WANT THEM!

We've got everything, we have our own white goods, a great gas cooker, all furniture, our own wardrobes, everything. We just need an empty shell to lift everything up out of this one and pop across into that one..... where ever 'that one' exists!?

We've gone in at under the asking rent price on some places that need updating, saying we'd do the renovations and repaint ourselves.... this being good work and nothing shoddy. Landlord came back not only rejecting our offer but adding an extra 400, yes four-f*cking-hundred, quid a month more on top of the previously asked rent. We've gone in at the asking rate, and again the landlord ups the rent. It's shocking and it's completely pissing us both off.

There was a flat for 1,200pcm in Richmond-upon-Thames (that's the max budget, could push to 1,300pcm but that is REALLY pushing it!), looked good on paper.... went to visit and didn't step foot inside - as soon as the agent opened the door we reeled in disgust at the smell coming from the flat - absolutely horrible.

Just a two double bedroom place, completely bare, I can even fit my own kitchen cabinets if need be....... yet they're sooooooooo hard to find.

*Cries through sheer frustration*

Do they give a reason why the rent gets upped??

Been private renting for about 16 years and never heard of that, it's shocking!!

We're looking to move asap but not anywhere near a major town/city...

Found a house but they wanted 2 months deposit, a month in advance and another month just in case some paperwork took time and broke into month #2..

We are only talking up to £700 a month maximum though. . .

That's another thing the 'fees, deposit, first month's rent and whatnot' on the flat that got upped by 400 quid were nearly three grand!!!!!!!! I can only put it down to sheer greed of the agencies and landlords

We were looking at £3k to get into a £600pcm house...

Madness. . .

Although, amusingly, that house has now dropped by £50 a month..

Wife is at the council tomorrow, see if they'll help... I'll not be holding my breath..

How the hell can anyone afford to live in London nowadays?

For £1200 a month in Edinburgh you could get an absolutely top notch 2 bedroom in a great area, either city centre or a posh suburb.

And Edinburgh is, I think, the 3rd or 4th most expensive city in Britain.

That's one of the many reasons I live on a boat now. 8)

Property is just ridiculous in this country. Lots of people have made themselves stupidly rich not by being clever, but by buying houses. It isn't right.

I will buy a house at one point because I don't want to be a liveaboard as an old man and wouldn't want to bring up children on a boat, but really it's been a blast.

The amount I am spending on a double room in a nice corner of N1 is more than enough to fund a mortgage and monthly repayments on a reasonable car in much of the rest of the country.

Would love to have the London wage and live & work elsewhere!
