With Google seemingly wanting to share more of my stuff than I want them too I wonder is there any other search engines anyone can reccomend?

 You are not far from the truth I suspect.

I did research firefox but they often subuse facts from google so firefox allows the google cookie through. It's just that this year seems to be the year of search companies and social network sites recognise your searches then they direct advertisers directly at you with their products.

TBH I don't mind the way Google selects ads. I only get ads for bikes and bike parts, which I find much more interesting than ads for political parties or "the kind of medication that helps you perform better in bed"

If you really don't want those, you can always enhance your privacy settings in your browser's menu.

You can also clear cookies occasionally. Ccleaner has a nice feature that lets you select which cookies to keep. That way if you clear your cookies, you don't have to log in to every site you frequently visit.

Personally I use srware Iron, which is a trimmed-down version of Google Chrome. That browser works pretty fast and doesn't send too much personal information to Google.

Yeah me too, i like googles ad selection, i made the mistake of browsing a dog food website because someone linked to it as a joke reply... i've been getting hammered with deals for wag and bakers finest products for about a month now, i don't even own a dog

Not your average search engine.

Interesting as a calculator, but it's almost completely useless for 95% of the type of searches I use Google for :(

I tried it a while back when it was first made publicly available and hoped it would improve but it just hasn't... Google was a complete game-changer back in early 1999 right from the very first time I first tried it.

I'm sure the amount Google know about me now is quite scary really though, it would be nice to have a good alternative.
