Fuel Protests

I suppose so. I live a couple of miles from Stanlow, might go up there later to have a gander.

so far i have heard nothing of any protests in my area, which is 3 miles from the Fawley esso refinery but having said that, the prices here do seem to be alot lower than elsewhere, i filled up a week ago and paid 142 per litre of diesel which is way lower than when i went to wales and devon a while ago.

but regarding the prices and talked about above, i work in a chemical plant next to the esso refinery, we make raw synthetic rubber, about 180 tonnes on a good day, the energy prices the company pays are always based on the previous years figures and contracts are agreed every year. so 2 years ago we had high costs and the price of rubber dropped because no one was buying new cars so tyre companies weren't buying so we had high costs and low sales at low prices, this year our costs are different, the price of rubber is high and our energy costs are low because of previous years lack of use so it's good.

i'd imagine the refineries work in a similar way. having said all that, the frustrating thing i think is a combination of the tax (which is massive) and that the fuel price doesn't go down in sync (retrospectively) when the oil price does.

what seems to happen is the oil price goes up so they put the petrol price up immediately but when it goes down they leave the price high then the oil goes up again so they increase the petrol again and so on.

bearing in mind how many billions the oil companies make (regardless of how amazing it is for them to get the oil then make it in to petrol and get it to a garage for £1.50 a litre) i think they're needs to be a drop in the price and the government (regardless of the party in power) should help by easing tax aswel.

simply, a combination of both the government and oil companies should bring the price down.

They make billions yes, but that's simply because they're huge company's in a huge industry. Their turnovers run into the hundreds of billions so proportionally the profits are only around 5 to 10%.

Also dont forget oil is priced in $ per barrel so the strength of the £ plays a large part too.

It winds me up though that we pay VAT on the duty, taxed on tax!!!
