FS: AMAZING Tomo Radial/DP18 7spd wheels+ Shimano 600 rear

BTon2021

Retro Guru
I have quite a few bits for sale, everything is available for pick-up from London, Stoke Newington but I can post at cost.

First up: wheels.....

Tomo Radial Hubs laced to Rigida DP18 rims - There is very little info on these hubs but they are beautiful. With help from one-eyed_jim they have been identified as German from a company called 'Tomo Radial Naben'. The patent is held by a bike shop owner called Tomas Klimecky. Have a look at the pics to see just how nice the machined hubs are. The spokes are flattended aero spokes. I was going to keep these and ride them myself but I've just bought myself a De Rosa with a lovely wheelset already so I'm going to part with them. Front is 18h, Rear is 24h. The 8 speed Hyperglide cassette is included in the sale.

Condition - Absolutely fanstastic, with only minor wear to the braking surface.

Not sure how much to ask for these as there's absolutely no price guide anywhere. God knows how much they would have cost to build. I'm going to ask for £150 as they are obviously very rare and in very, very good condition and complete with cassette. The rims alone are worth about £60 I think so £150 for the set seems fair...

£150

Shimano 600 / Mavic MA40 rear clincher Comes with 7 speed Uniglide cassette & original skewer. Lovely classic black rims, Shimano 600 hub is also nice - very shiny (see pics).

Condition - Very good, cassette has a bit of life left still, wheels are nice and true. Not too much brake wear.

£40

Just so you know the Shimano 600 is a Uniglide hub not hyperglide and has only 7 sprockets not 8.

The Tomo wheels look well nifty 8)

OOoops!

Thanks for that.

Yeah the Tomo's are amazing, I'm kinda reluctant to sell them but hopefully someone can make good use of them.

So the Frankfurt street address and German patent documents I found don't correspond to these hubs?

It would be good if you could update that thread with your new information.

Sorry, never thought about updating that.

http://www.lfgss.com/thread54834.html - have a read of that, this seems more likely as the bottom bracket that was on the bike was unbranded apart from 'Made in Slovenia'. Mystery solved it seems.

Thanks for your help anyway, I'll update the thread.

I found a company called "Tomo Radial Naben" (Tomo Radial Hubs) with a street address in Frankfurt. That street address belongs to a bike shop owner called Tomas Klimecky who holds German patents for front and rear radial hubs that closely match the description of yours. That seems like fairly strong evidence to me that your hubs are German.

On the other side you have a guy on a forum who says "As a cycling related brand Tomo is Slovenian. You will find sweet f*ck all about it in English." and you find that more plausible?

If you Google "dvokolo tomo" (dvokolo is Slovenian for bicycle) you get nothing - Google assumes you must mean moto - but there is an old brand of Slovenian bikes and motorbikes called TOMOS.

Incidentally, are you sure your bottom bracket wasn't Slovakian? KINEX is a big Slovakian bearing manufcturer that produces bottom bracket units for a number of other manufacturers, including Miche, Campag and Stronglight, plus a fair chunk of the OEM market:

Sorry, I never saw the edited bits of your post relating to the Radial Patents. That makes complete sense.

Maybe the bb is Slovakian, I'll double check tonight. I thought it said Slovenian, and put 2+2 together. Looks like I may have misfired & got 5.

Sorry man, didn't mean to disregard your info.

No need to update the thread now :)

Oh and I just noticed your post asking about the matching rear - I assume you've seen it now on this thread. They are very nice hubs.
