From chainring to bash ring

TBH, it just takes a bowl of water and a decent bench grinder.

Do it in circular steps and use the water to cool it in stages. Mine a half hosepower one, so it does get hot! 8)

MMMM I recognise that C/Set. The spanky black one !..

If you use an angle grinder very carefully and take your time Ian, it will turn out right..

COOL PEACHEZ

No bench grinder or angle grinder chaps . . . I am limited to Dremel and some cutting/sanding attachments..

That chainset is lush mate... she loves it!!

you could post it to steve to do.....

Or me,I have a bench grinder and the clogging from the alloy isnt a problem as i can dress the stones
cost you a fiver total postage for both ways

I have a dremel as well and i wouldnt recommend it,mainly as it will take hours, and you wont get such a good job, well you probably will if you spend further hours [days  ]sanding it all smooth

Done a couple of chainring to bashring 'conversions'

Cut off teeth with hacksaw then filed down the excess...results were pretty good :D

Agreed. Must be a grinder if you want a circular ring at the end of it all.

Buy a grinder from B & Q, do it yourself and then take it back two days later and say it's fooked! :D

(I didn't say that!) :P

A file will do a far better job (if you know how to use it properly, of course ).

And anyway, unless you have an aluminium-specific grinding wheel or mounted point (which you probably won't have) it'll just load up with aluminium in a few minutes, and you'll be forever re-dressing it.
Generally speaking, grinding aluminium is never the way to go.

With just a file,he'll be at it for days  .And i dont think IDB8 has any method of holding the ring ie bench vice.
I'll be doing it for him,ill take the most off with the grinder then as you say,get the better finish with the file.

Did this on a cheap bench grinder [nu-tool]
Not really a problem with clogging, just had to re-dress once.
