weather not looking good for bank holiday weekend. normal, then. sunny out, finish work early, nice long singlespeed ride. heady scent of rapeseed flowers.

gearing feels fine. chain too slack, but not coming off. must fix that. only one gear so no rush. enjoy the countryside more. listen to the birds. avoid the sheep.

feel every bump under the wheels.chuck the bike about a bit. this is great. feel spring pulling up sap through the trees and flowering. best ride of my life.

Nice area there :D

I just cant get my head round this SS thing though.............

have you tried it yet?

I took some convincing (believe me!), but am really loving it. just pushing the boundaries currently to see if there's any ride really where I couldn't go SS. Not found one yet...

the other thing is, if you're bored with your local routes, try it SS and rigid - it completely changes the ride and makes boring paths exciting.

I 'spose like most things, dont knock it until you've tried it

I'd like, in fact love, to go rigid again. I learnt to ride MTB's and then raced 2 seasons rigid. I had a rigid Zaskar potentially lined up when I thought I had a buyer for my Avalanche, was really looking forward to it, but then the deal fell through.

I'm going to keep the Avalanche now, so may build the LTS up and then move it on to go rigid. Then I'd have one of each; rigid, front, full 8)

I use SS on my commute as it makes me push a bit harder .

I ride a fixed(road bike) for commuting and find I have to push a bit harder too, maximising my 10miles. But the other thing is I use it as a winter trainer and rides do have a different feel to them. You will read alot of guff about connection and zen  like riding, unfortunately there is something in it and without gears rides take on another form and it is very pleasurable. Slower on the flats let you take in vistas and hills are a challenge with nowhere to bail out.

Nice ride :)

Ive ridden fixed on the road for years as well, on an 80's 531pro track bike and i much prefer it to gears when im feeling fresh, its a lot more fluid and a ball buster up the hills but nothing gets you fit quicker.
Gonna single speed the rc200 for dry fast days on decent tracks when i finally get my new bike in the summer ( shocking i know, but after 12 years on the same bike i realise i need more front travel than the rc35's can offer... :( getting pissed off with going over the bars when they bottom out )
