He has to pay your notice period, by sacking you he probably thinks he doesn't have to pay you. Even if you are serving notice he still needs to follow procdure or you must have done something to warrant sacking otherwise he is breaking the law.
Never fake a solicitors letter, if he acts against it it could put you in a very awkward position, just send one yourself. You can make it official looking without saying you are a solicitor, or just pay for a real one if you have a case.
just found this...
"Pretending to be a solicitor is a criminal offence under section 56 of the 1954 Solicitors Act, punishable by up to two years' imprisonment."
... Obviously that means 240 hours community service in todays terms.
congrats mate on the escape im in a similar position with a dodgy boss myself, hoping to take my first breaths of freedom very soon tho, just not a lot about round here so been stuck there!
Unless its gross misconduct, so unless you injected heroin into a customer or fellow employee I think under UK employment law you should be able to ask for your notice pay.
It does paint a pretty picture of your work place, to sack someone is in many cases an admission of failure as a manager, to sack under notice is a stupid thing to do.
I've just had a very interesting read-up on UK employment law..... Learned things I didn't previously know and I think a quick call to a specialist on Monday morning, just to see my standing..
