Today my wife announced that she would like to take up mtb riding and would like a bike so I am after either a frame or complete bike for her introduction. She is only 5ft 1 so I would think a frame of around 15" is what we are after and almost certainly a hard tail or xc full susser. I really dont want to spen anything really but I am willing to for the right frame

we spent ages looking for right sized bike for my Mrs (5ft) and small frame size differences seemed to make big difference, 15" could be bit on big side depending on limb length (for want of a better term  )

No disrespect mate but isnt that going to fit someone around 5'9-10?? And therefore massive for a 5ft woman?..

I'm 5ft 10in tall & it would be tiny for me. previous owner was a 5ft 2in female, but she does have lovely long legs 8)

The FSR looks lovely, but if that's not to your taste keep your eyes open for a GT Chucker or Kona Chute (in fact anything jumpey). Built up a Kona Chute for my wife two Christmas's ago (frame came from weeman_mtb on here at an amazingly cheap price :) ). Seem to remember DMR Trailstars are quite nice as well. :) (Head for eBay, e.g.: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/GT-CHUCKER-MO ... 3f22bbf5a2)

Cheers maate will keep an eye out for a chucker or chute, that ebay one is only down the road from me.

Oo Weird how things like that happen. My wife's Chute built up in to a really nice little bike actually - lighter than you might think; ended up building the whole lot for about £50 (thanks in the main to weeman_mtb actually). Those jump frames do have the advantage of already being small frames and also of being an interesting bike if MTB turns out not to be the hobby of choice for your better half... ;)

Oh, one other thing. It might be worth putting a note in your signature that you're after a small framed bike - I've found in the past that people have things but don't always check the 'wanted' section. At least if it's in your signature then it gets seen regularly. :)
