Frame colour combos and finishes

What would you say your favourite colour combination and finishes for a frame would be?

I know that different eras had different styles, 80's early 90's for example had some shocking colour combinations!

I'm currently trying to decide what colours to have this re-finished in

It's a 1957 frame, so it needs to be period correct and the head lugs and fork crown will be chromed.

Personally I like flamboyant finishes. But I'm struggling with putting a combination of two colours together that look good.

Looking at some hetchins frames on google, some of the colour combinations are hideous!

Thanks in advance

Re:

I think electric blue with red accents would look good. But I'm no authority on colour choices, I sprayed my early 80's Dawes Day-glow yellow with white and silver stripes :?

Flam burgundy, turquoise, bronze, cherry but not green which was unlucky plus white head tube and 3 white panels on the seat tube. Chrome the lugs and box lines in gold.

Fifties bikes were really quite bling :)

I think that chrome fancy lugs work well with darker colours. And metallics would be particularly good - especially the coloured clear lacquer over sparkly silver (or gold with some colours).
Just my 2p.

Re:

Quite like the look of the green and purple.

Favourite colour is blue (Everton) so might be nice to try and use a blue colour

Green has always been unlucky, even more so in Hull with the sailing heritage. We stocked the smallest number of green bikes we could as no one would buy them. Hull city council had a policy of not using green.

Someone once bought a bike because it had a feather on it.....nowt so queer as folk as they say :)

Interesting Shaun

I've been told that green cars are unlucky (I've had 2, and one was a Saab Turbo I loved and has for 4 years). Crack was that they were harder to see so featured in more than their statistically fair share of accidents? Might that be the reason?

Anyway, one of my green bikes (frames) is a Trevor Jarvis Flying Gate that I'm hoping to feature as a build in the not-too-distant future... That's my avatar.

Watch this space

that's a lovely frame indeed. I read your 'what is this' thread with interest, and think you have a real pearl there. Might I second the suggestion Mike made of flamboyant purple? Would look great with the chrome headlugs.

Shame about you being an Everton fan. Never mind. :?
