Thanks G.E.MTB.

Good idea. Just where the original question was intending to lead the discussion.

Why does it need to be separate from the Retro MTB Chat section, what is wrong with just posting it as per normal. You could add a please don't spam with crap, piss take, loads of bollocks and please back you knowledge up message at the top if you wanted.

There's nothing irrational about the Square root of 2's suggestion (see what I did there :o ). It's very easy for a more technical question to be lost amongst the, should I ride my bike with a cracked tt and dt at the headtube type of question.

Perhaps a forum dedicated to people building period correct bikes from the frame up...like a builder's forum. It could be a subforum of the Retrobike chat forum. Hell, if modding is an issue, I'll gladly mod it.., not that I'm an expert, but I've modded on other sites before, and know it's thankless work, one more forum/sub-forum means one more area to mod...so I'll help.

John, I appreciate they way you, and the other mods, run this place. Perhaps there is something to this suggestion, and a trial might not be so bad, eh?

Fair points made (apart from the lame and tireless discussion that has been done to death) but I'd note that knowledge is porridge.

Quite.

Anyhow some interesting discussion. I'd prefer we stay away from any more forum fragementation for the time being.

I see detailed questions being posed in retro mtb chat and generally being answered (or at least sensibly discussed) regularly. It's not my perception they are being 'spammed'. If I'm wrong please let me know and we'll moderate accordingly. The forum is busy enough that it's seen by plenty of people but not so busy any thread will plummet like Eddie 'The Eagle' Edwards. Sure, some of the threads in retro mtb chat are of a basic nature but let us not forget we all started somewhere 8)

Reader's Rides combined with Retro MTB chat will do fine...agreed. But perhaps in the future a dedicated Builder's corner might be considered.

cool 8)

Come on John your not giving enough credit to Eddie. After all he was the only Brit with the nads to take off on a 90 meter hill and after a couple years he got pretty decent...practice makes perfect.

So there's IVMTB. Anal, detail oriented, highly critical, lots of knowledge. We're mean and snobby. All those things that get people bent out of shape....no sense making that open to the thin skinned masses to complain about.

I know you're not taking it personal...but its nothing personal to those who do take it that way.

:P
From the IVMTB Terms of Service:

"You agree, through your use of this service, that you will not use this community to post any material which is knowingly false and/or defamatory, inaccurate, abusive, vulgar, hateful, harassing, obscene, profane, sexually oriented, threatening, invasive of a person's privacy, or otherwise violative of any law. P.S the weight of the saddle will give you a guide to it's age
early are ~180g then they increase up to ~220g for the later years. Rails, plastic and probably the padding where thickened for durability.

As to which weight = which year I don't know. But the year of manufacture is stamped on the bottom if I remember correctly.

-- though I was just meaning post generally in the retro chat area.

Thank you

is there a point to this ?
it seems that someone is asking for a dedicated ,no piss taking section
on this fine site
one that top drawer restorers can feel special in (elitist maybee)
i see no reason not for this but i dont think its gonna attract many posts
most folk will be intimidated by the blazers in there
just smacks a bit of caravan club kennel club stuff
