I thought that was called VRC

No it is now called IVMTB. Very exclusive club.

Are you a member, Kevin? Will you be sporting one of those fantastic avatars soon?

:xmas-wink:

I post the questions here...with mixed results. I imagine my results would not be much better elsewhere, depending on the mood of the potential responders, and the quality of my potential build. But I've been wrong every now and again.

Right now, I have a 86 Mountain Goat WTR disassembled, a 85 Ritchey Team Comp disassembled, a 97 WTB Ti Phoenix disassembled, a 90 FCC Yo Eddy disassembled, a 88 wicked, whole but soon undergoing more changes, and a 95 IF deluxe, getting broken down and made into a ss. They are my keepers, as I've been reducing the number of bikes I own, and upgrading at the same time. Posting mostly on RB has allowed me to evolve in my collecting and appreciation of VRC mountain bikes without undergoing ridicule. Look through my post history, and you'll see a couple average or well below average bikes- they meant something to me, and were a stepping stone in my rediscovery of bikes past. I've learned quite a bit through trial and error, and through the old VRC posts, made during a less toxic time, when some of the guys ripping into people now, were newbs themselves, asking what might now be deemed stupid questions.

I find as much as I can via google, many times it leads to old VRC posts from years ago, or old Bike Forums posts...I'm grateful for them. The questions I have little luck finding answers to, I post on here, or email/pm people privately that might know. I find, sometimes, some people are more helpful in private than in public for some reason...I'll let others speculate as to why that might be.

I am curious about who is a member of the secret Retrobike club. I tried to find the thread where one of the mods was alluding to it. I've heard about it before too. Interesting. I'd like to join, so whoever is in the know, please PM me!

BP, your avatar weirds me out. I miss the pig.

edit...SHAZAAM! Just like that, the pig returns, and the world is in balance.

I saw Ichi the Killer and dug it so much. But now, the pig is back. My buddy and I prepared this icon in 1987 if you can believe it.

Your poo has to smell of cycle lube to get in there.

I don't like the members only forum idea, and for that I won't try to join (see avatar) but having said that...I watched MTBR-VRC go astray over the last few years so I understand why Rumpfy and the others went that route. I would rather they have an open forum and take the liberty to moderate it into what they want, but you know what they say...different strokes for different folks... 8)

Pitfall of a forum that had to abide by the rules and guidelines of a parent company (Consumer Review).

Retrobike has the freedom to pull the forums in any direction it wants...but happens to not be a direction that the old timer VRC'ers are in to.

So there's IVMTB. Anal, detail oriented, highly critical, lots of knowledge. We're mean and snobby. All those things that get people bent out of shape....no sense making that open to the thin skinned masses to complain about.

I know you're not taking it personal...but its nothing personal to those who do take it that way.
