Classic British touring bike built in London with Reynolds 531 tubing, purchased new in 1980. Fitted with a quality mix of period-correct French and Japanese components, including original Sachs-Huret gearing. This is an honest, complete machine that remains eligible for Eroica events.

Specification

Frame: Revell, Reynolds 531 tubing, 61 cm, original paint/decals with patina

Wheels: Weinmann 217 alloy rims (27 × 1¼″) – with new tyres fitted during service

Brakes: Weinmann 605 side-pull calipers + Weinmann levers

Chainset: SR (Sakae Ringyo) double

Pedals: SR SP-11 with Christophe-style toeclips & straps (new)

Front derailleur: Huret

Rear derailleur: Sachs-Huret (original equipment, 1980)

Shifters: SunTour Power downtube friction levers

Bars/Stem: Sakae Custom Road Champion alloy drops + SR quill stem

Saddle: Brooks leather

Rack: Jim Blackburn alloy touring rack

Extras: Full-length mudguards with pinstripes (rear is missing bottom 3 inches)

Gearing: 10-speed (2×5), friction shifting


Condition

Professionally serviced 4 years ago, including new tyres, and rarely used since. Mechanically sound and rideable.

Paint shows age-related wear, decals are worn, and there is some superficial surface rust underneath, but no structural issues.

Overall “honest patina” — a proper 1980s touring bike with single owner.

Likely a "Ritmo" rather than a "Romany" which was their top of the range tourer. It had dedicated rack fixings and cantis IIRC.
Nice nevertheless. And an early one too, to judge by the seat tube decal.
 
I remember looking at those in the Freewheel catalogue c. 1982. Where did life go?
I was about to say the same thing – there was another with a pearlescent paint finish I think, and those 'ESGE' chromoplastic mudguards gave me a Proustian rush. I remember when the 'skin shorts' first made an appearance, which seemed very racy in comparison with black wool and chamois.
