Hi. Where in Sheffield do you live? I might be interested, but in this as the base for a tourer. Maybe we could negotiate a price that left you with the drivetrain to stick on another bike.

It's Tange chromoly, but I'm not sure which of their specific alloys this is. If you're interested in a touring frame, I've also got an aluminium Dawes vantage frame, fork, bottom bracket and headset, 53cm, that is all ready to be built up. It's 700c, though; I'm not sure how that affects your build plan.

Hmm, a few mods...
Bars are definitely a personal thing, but make sure you have a choice of hand positions. I toured extensively in Spain and rode the Pacific Coast of the USA on it with the stock flat bars and bar-ends. Nowadays I prefer drops.
Definitely your thought on the wheels is right - the standard ones aren't great and a solid set of wheels is most important. Rigida Sputniks or Sun Rhynos are strong and have a good reputation at the heavy end. I use mine for road and gravel and Mavic 231 on LX/DX hubs has served well.

Your bike looks great. Have you ever put front panniers on? I'm thinking of doing so, just to even out the weight a bit. I think a loaded back end with nothing on the front could cause some serious issues on dirt roads. Obviously the front fork don't have the braze-ons/eyelets for a rack. I have some p clips, but the forks are also pretty chunky, an they don't fit.

Actualy, it's obvious isn't it... it's the same solution that I always use. A bit of old inner tube and some cable ties.
