Flipping trailers.

Following a Land Rover towing a large 3 axle box trailer down a bumpy section of the fosseway yesterday morning. Trailer starts to get a little shimmy on. In no time at all the shimmy had turned into a full snake and the trailer proceeded to tip onto it side. Sparks everywhere and the trailer proceeded to overtake the Land Rover towing it. The trailer ended up in my lane on it's side, the vehicle towing in the other lane with it's rear wheels about a metre in the air.

No harm done (other than to the trailer I suppose) but asks a lot of 'what if' questions.

No stabiliser on the trailer which was interesting.

was it one of the very low ones to take cars ? they are a bugger for that , even with the extra stabiliser bar they bounce all over the place...........

I've towed a fair few things over the years, caravans, little trailers and car trailers.

Cant say I ever enjoyed it :roll:

Never went over 40 with the little trailer or 50 with a car trailer behind me.

However, neither the car trailer or little trailer had the facility to add a stabiliser.

Watched a Mondeo in the outside lane on the A14 snake & flip - quite distressing to watch as the family all clamber out, holiday ruined :?

Watched a Discovery towing a mint Massey Ferguson for showing, snake & flip...

one bent Discovery, trailer and non mint tractor.

Yeah. It looked quite low like it might go on a car as well.

i towed a nissan 300zx from dunbar to bristol last year with one o them trailers with a transit pick-up and did'nt like it much

every time i hit a bump the dam thing bounced a good 500mm high and that was with a stabiliser bar

theres some good videos of nutters doing 70+ mph towing/crashing on youtube
