Fixing an XTR M952 RF+

P20

Retrobike Rider
Has anyone on here managed to fix a rapidfire shifter? The L/H unit on the Ritchey has been misfiring for abit now and is getting worse. The thumb shifter(pulling the cable) is intermitant(?spelling). Anyone had them apart and putting them back together?

(also wanted: the moon on a stick  )

yup, ozzie mike at the now defunct thameside cycles fixed 1 for me. after seeing 1 completely stripped down I dont ever want to see 1 again
I've got some M950 XTR 8spd STIs for £39posted ;)

I've noticed that CRC have them £30 LH, £40 RH and £75 the pair.....
Am i missing something here or has the alcohol taken effect

Same happened to a 9-spd LX shifter I had. I stripped it down to find a tiny piece of grit resting in the ratchet of the shifter that the lever pawl was 'skipping' over. With a bit of luck, it might be something similar. Quick brush over with tooth brush & a squirt of WD-40 and I was back in business. Good luck! :D

Well it doesn't take a Maths teacher to decide which is the best course of action there!

Spoke to the lads at the shop where i used to work. They reckon a good blast of GT85 will fettle it. I'll give that a go before trying to take it apart

no idea what GT85 is, 9 times out of 10 when the detents "give up the ghost" a good blast of lube brings em back. can take a little time soaking though, don't give up if it doesn't work in the first 5 minutes

Yeah its lube, forget that this place is international. Its not a very good lube, but ideal for this kind of thing

Dragging this back - the front XT RF+ unit on the Marin only sometimes engages and pulls the cable on... Is this the same issue being talked about, and if so, reckon GT85 or dismantling <eek>?

I gave it a blast of GT85 and it worked. I later discovered that the old goretex cable liner had split and may have also been causing the problem
Just give a good blast, you've got nought to lose
