Fixed cup removal (with pics)

Yeah - that is last resort option. 👍 Haven't welded for years but could find someone in the village to do that and help.

The closest tool I found is this for old Solex front wheel drive scooters. Only in 37mm.

Now wait for it, go to the fridge first ....... this fixed cup of course just happened to be 38mm.

File 0.5mm off all the cup faces, or grind if you have a "delicate touch"🤔

This will have the added benefit of removing some of the pointless, counter productive chamfer.

I've had success using this method before on a French threaded fixed cup- must have got lucky as I only used an M12 bolt and a stack of washers and some scrap 3mm steel on the outside face of the cup. I did also heat the outside of the cup then lay it flat before applying wax (birthday cake candles) to the inside of the BB where the cup meets the frame. In my head this helped (though it might just have been the heat alone that broke the decades old seal). Fixing a scrap wheelset to frame to prop it up while I muscled the breaker bar helped. Thanks for documenting here @rmwesley .
