Fitting gear cables to shimano 600 arabesque shifters

My rebuild of a 1978 Koga Miyata Road Speed is nearing completion, but I've hit a bit of a brick wall.
Does anyone have any tips on how to cable up the shifter with the derailleurs? I can see the cable routing on the shifters and the holes for where the cables are meant to sit, but I can't work out how to fit it all together.
Any hints/tips/diagrams/videos would be hugely appreciated.

Maybe the best thing to do is google some pics of old road bikes with downtube friction shifters and copy that?

Normally it's pretty self evident where it goes unless there is something missing like an under / over bottom bracket cable guide.
