First tubeless tyres? Wolber tubeless?

Tubeless tyres have a butyl coating on the inside to make them airtight, they also have a tighter fit on the rim and the bead is squarer and designed to lock onto the square hook design of tubeless rims, tubeless rims also have an internal profile designed to help get the tubeless tyres on and lock into place. Non tubeless tyres won't work without sealant because the sidewalls are too porous.
So basically you might be able to get it to work with tubeless tyres and no sealant, but it depends on how well the beads seals against the hook of the rim and it won't be fully retro as it seems there were no tubeless tyres until after 1997 as far as i am aware.

Those Wolbers are 1980's and came with sealant and specific rims.

As far as I can acertain from the interweb, the Wolber Avoriaz was a tubular tyre (probably made by Vittoria), it was paired with the Wolber TR-1 tubular rim, and came with rim cement.

I did see something on Bike Radar recently about what was going to be the next big thing in tire technology. It was a tire with a lightweight rubber tube that fitted inside. They we £150.00 a set if my memory serves me correctly.

So tires and inner tubes are going to be the next big thing but they are going to up the price dramatically if you are so foolish to buy it.
