Alumin(i)um 😁 front triangle, Chromoly steel rear triangle, just like Mantis XCR, Nishiki Alien ACX, Haro Extreme Comp, and I think a couple of others.

This is the first gen CR-7. I'm not sure why Gary Fisher chose to have both triangles painted black. To me, that hides the fact that it's an alloy bolt-together frame. I prefer the 2nd gen CR-7s with teal front triangle and fully chromed rear triangle that matches the fork nicely.

Nice looking Fisher. A BIN of $600, Interested in seeing if it sells.....In the link posted there is a Fisher Montare like mine that is also for sale at $600. Watching that one also.

The CR moniker is rumored to be Richard Cunningham's initials reversed as an homage to him and the e-stay Mantis.

I have a 1990 model. Cool to see the differences. Mine only has "Fisher" on the down tube and the placement of the "CR" logo is more forward on the top tube. Mine is XT equipped and has updated XTR V-brakes

That's not 1st-gen, and the rear triangle should be chrome. I sold one recently - https://www.retrobike.co.uk/threads/1991-fisher-cr-7.492796/

1st-gen was 1988 and had a 1" steerer & chainstay roller brake. The oversized "Evolution" started in 1989.

Thanks for setting me straight.

This is news to me. For the past 15 years or so, I've only known of the black one with black chrome and the teal one with bare chrome. This site is where I get most of my information, but arguably there is a lot that I don't know. I should obviously have checked my facts before offering my opinion. 😶

Nonetheless, it is a rare and beautiful bike in spectacular condition.

"Fisher" branding became "Gary Fisher" due to entry into the European market and a lawsuit from fisher ski equipment in 91.
Sold to taiwanese Anlen Company same year, acquired by trek 92 iirc

Just to add there is also the silver / black colourway. I think there may also be a red but I cant be sure now. Nice bikes.
