This might be the grottiest bike I’ve ever bought to restore. Just couldn’t resist the fluro yellow/black combo.
Currently soaking in WD40 but seatpost is free! Hooray.. just need to take all the other heavy and unnecessary “improvements” off.
Wish me luck
All stripped down with no dramas to report. The frame looks ok after a quick wipe over with a rag, I’ll wash it with muc-off and give it a quick t-cut over the weekend. Doesn’t seem to have faded much on the fluro parts like a Marin might have which is a positive.
She’s a heavy thing though at 4.5kg as you see it here, might make a decent winter hack though with the right parts chucked at it?
It was so tempting to put all the 100GS gear straight in the bin but I’ve kept it to one side.. for now at least.
Got this rebuilt today, I decided to just go for 1x7 with slightly more modern parts which I had knocking around. Nothing too fancy but it’s come together really well and rides pretty good.
It’s another one of those bikes which could easily have been taken to the tip but this one’s saved and has many miles left in it.
My son had a Fusion as his bike to ride to college on. The great thing was no one knows what they are so no need to disguise it against theft. The thieves would simply target the obviously much better Carreras and the like . Reminds me I must get rid of it as he drives and goes to work full time now. I can remember selling the model you have when I worked in a London shop around 91 ?.
