The wife's Chrimbo pressie was a bird feeding station. It certainly is popular at the moment! It is important to supply warm (ie not frozen!) water for them as well.
Lay some carpet on the lawn. Every morning move it to a fresh spot. All the worms come to the surface below the carpet, letting the Blackbirds and thrushes have a nosh. Pretty useless in the snow though...
wasnt there something recently in the media that said its actually changing the way birds behave and for birdkind it may actually be harmful.
- lose some of their natural survival/hunting skills
- a lessening geographic mobility (micro/localised migration)
cos its all laid on for them.
Personally I think its nice to be able to get close to the chaffinches and greenfinches.
