Fat Chance Yo Eddy

Finally got the nod from Kev Winter today to send it down for repair. Its on its way and should be back in 2-3 weeks time. When it lands I will post up some pics.

Now i need to decide what colour.. I want a mainly black and silver build and will give a few little splashes of anno if needed- bolts, headset, QRs etc. Not too much bling.

Colours I am thinking are....

White (I miss my white Yo already)
Grellow
Team Violet
Bright Pink like Yo-nate-y's Monster Fat
Team Jersey (pink-white- aqua green)
or full custom as yet to be decided.

Dont want to do another in AquaFade as much as I like it. What do you think??

Kev called last night to say the seat tube is toast. Looks like it's going to be a much bigger job than I hoped. He doesn't have that size tubing in stock anyway.
Now I have to make another decision. Whilst he is chopping it up, should I have a 1 1/8th head tube fitted as well? It would 'future proof' the frame and open up the options for forks somewhat.

Colour choice is made. I'm going for Grellow. I have read that the original paint was mixed by adding 2 parts of green flouro and one part yellow flouro powders into clear wet laquer. This was sprayed over a White base. Those powders are no longer available so I have bought a half litre of 2 pack base in both colours. I'm going to mix up some samples today and see how close I can get it. Problem is I have only photos to work off. I have seen JVs grellow yo in the flesh which helps a little as I have a good memory for colour.

Progress with the forks...

I'm going to run a SID 100 Hydra air on this Yo with travel reduced to 80mm. My thinking is with the stantion overlap of that 100mm reduced to 80 might make for a slightly stiffer fork under braking, always a week spot with SIDs. They are also lighter than the Judy DH that I used on my first Yo and of course they are disc friendly.
I hate the look of redundant canti mounts when using a disc so first job was to cut off the mounts and file, sand and shape them into oblivion.
Next job was a service. Whilst they were stripped I pressed out the stantions and fitted them to a 1" Judy crown. So, they just need stripping back down for paint- a job for the weekend. I'm then going to design some custom decals in keeping with the frame.

I'd say do the headtube as well. Maybe have the angle adjusted to cater for the sus forks (wont the BB be a bit high though?). While you at it might as well have the back end converted to disk, after all your running disk up front anyway. Better to have matching brakes IMO.

Once the frame is done sell it to me :)

Keep up mike, the frame is already getting disc tab, hose guides and brace fitted as we speak

Regarding the geometry- the standard Yo is quite steep and a little twitchy at speed. My first Yo had a 80mm Judy fitted and it slackened the angles off and made it ride more like an early Wicked- just that little bit more stable and forgiving. The trade off was the front wandered a little in the climbs, but as i hate climbs and tend to walk this is not an issue. It will be perfect for the fast, flowing rooty trails of Northumberland now. I can also go back to a standard Yo fork if i leave the headtube alone.
As for BB height, with the 80mm fork it is only 14mm higher than standard when i'm seated- again the Yo was a racer and had quite a low BB anyway. Its going to make very little difference to the handling.
