SteveKs Wicked has just arrived, made me very happy – thanks mate, appreciate it! I'll put the feedback in the proper place a bit later on.

The reason for this thread is I want to replace the bottom bracket bearings at this stage before I build her up (figure if they're new now I won't need to worry about it for a while).

In order to do so I thought I'd ask if anyone knows the correct bearing code, before I go and try to measure it (incorrectly I suspect)

The BB in question is a normal press-in with the axle and locking collars.

With all the 'Fat' owners on this site – I'm sure one of you lot has had to do this at some stage, so any tips on fitting? (I suspect my bull-in-china-shop approach will probably take care of the removal)

there should be a number/letter code on the outer seal of the bearing which is all you need to get new bearings. inner diameter is for 17mm spindles and outer 34mm i think but not sure

Rody will know

Do not go to bearing suppliers! I got some astronomical quotes! Rody sent some over for a very reasonable sum. :)

cheers guys

I had a quick look on the groovy site and found the bearing kit listed – it makes some reference to a 'c' clip being installed to ensure correct fitting depth :? I'm assuming this is important – please forgive the ignorance.

Yes the clip is important (some call it a snap ring) its a metal clip that fits into a groove on the outer edge of the bearing. Its to stop the bearing being pressed completely into the bottom bracket shell. In other words when you press the bearing in it will go in as far as the circlip and no further.

A mate is a rep for bearing supplier, he said that they are not available in this country anymore (the size and circlip being the problem) but he offerd to get some in for mates rates. Turned out that one was twice as much as a pair from rody! Hes got the collars as well.

I've havent spoken to Joe @ IF in some time. last time we spoke he mentioned that they still had some original bearings & lockrings.

i use them for all sorts of stuff hope bearings ringle royce they are always a few quid if not free as samples must have a good supplier! Unless of course fat got there own specced bearings but i doubt it this would be cost prohibitive for such a small company

I've got the same issue....looking for bearings for my Fat B/B. The ones I took out have the code 5202rs. They have the slot for the circlip. Having measured them, they look like 6202 bearings, so i'm not sure if these would do the trick.

Can anyone help???
