Fastback stays +identification help please

I really don't like it aesthetically, and can't see why you would do this from a structural point of view.

Still, what do I know! Gary must have thought it good...

Thank you for all the replies on this, especially the ones with helpful pictures. I ask (ages ago apparently!) partly out of general interested, but prompted by much purchase of a frame.

I've finally got round to taking some photos. Any help with possible identification would be very much appreciated.

All I know is the frame had the drop-outs changed for horizontal ones for single speed and was repainted at the same time. I wasn't even sure how old it would be, given there is no rear canti bridge. The frame number, MT93027679 if you can't read it, points at possibly '93, so I guess a canti bridge or guide could have been removed while frame alterations were being done, but I can't see any signs.

Any other pictures or info that would help let me know. I plan to sling a few parts on it just to take it out for a quick spin when I get time just to check it's not too small for me to use, but other than that nothing decided other than a repaint.

Spudly pointed out to me that it actually has two frame numbers, one on either the bottom bracket shell.

So as well as: MT93027679

The other side has: MB10934

The bottom bracket shell is 68mm and the seat post is 30.0mm

Any ideas or anything else I could check to help identify it?

The welding looks a bit blotchier on that and the top tube cable guides are different, but I won't rule it out as a possibility, since I have absolutely no idea!

Thanks for the reply :) I was already starting to be resigned to it being my "Mystery Fastback".

and I certainly haven't discounted the possibility that someone had the dropouts changed and a new paint job on a cheap frame.

I did spend 4 times as much on the powdercoating for my Karakoram Elite as I did on the whole bike originally after all!

Someone just posted this Ridgeback in the valuations thread... Similar in some ways (chainstay clearance "scoops"), different in others. Who knows, the quality and weight of yours is more important than who made it

I like that Ridgeback :)

I agree that the quality and weight (I should remove the forks and headset and actually weigh it) are more important than who made it, but unfortunately once I start thinking about something I have to know the answer.
