Fair price rise of stamps ?

I will agree the royal is cheap by European standards but !!!

But the general % increase is too much couldn't they have spread that over 3 years say 10% a year
for my new increase in price do i get a post office now ?? or do i still have to stand for hours in my local newsagent ??

if i take postage cost and time spent queuing Royal is not cheap

£2.20 for second class parcel at new flat rate price under 750g + minimum of 30 minutes standing there at minimum wage £3.04

it has therefore cost me £5.24 to send for example a brake lever to another RB member

Fair my Ar*e

before anyone says anything my time is valuable not free

this rise in prices has been authorised by the regulator but what it means is that they can't put the prices up by much in the following few years at least.
here's a link to a pdf if you want the full list http://www.royalmail.com/prices2012
Overseas prices have jumped a fair bit too, almost a £1 to 500g to europe with a pound and more over that weight limit.
If you get in early you can make a huge profit from the situation, better than putting your money into an ISA...cherching
Think superdrug still sell their stamps cheaper anyhow as well as costco

I think it is great. It will mean that people will buy more of my stuff now the price of postage is more even......

Is there anything to stop someone from buying a load of stamps before the price rise and selling them afterwards?

Not as far as I'm aware of, if you deal with RM direct you get a 7% discount on 1st class stamps but I've not seen any set procedure that says you must be an authorised seller.
Buy £1k of 2nd class stamps now and come end of next month the value will have gone up by £388.89

I actually have a large sheet of 2nd class stamps somewhere, maybe 80-100...i\m rolling in it.... like a sheep in muck.... bah

Seriously though I think the Royal mail needs saving and if a few pence gets added to a stamp im fine with that. 60p to be able to get a letter to anywhere in the country is good, be it across town or 400 miles away.

If it works out cheaper to get on your bike/in your car and spend the time traveling to hand deliver a car (taking into account the assumed 40 pence per mile cost of running a car, based on expendable rates) then the option is there for you.

Personally speaking, at my hourly rate if it took me any longer than 1 minute 5 seconds to walk there and back it would be more cost effective to use a 60p stamp. and it simply wouldn't be worth considering using the bike or car.

My first thought was that one could just buy a load of stamps, hold for a month and sell on. Even if you sell at a discount, there's still a healthy profit margin.

Then I remembered you can use stamps to pay for things ... I don't believe they're legal tender, but you can use them for bartering.
