Not much progress to report - we’ve hit gymnastics comp season for my daughter…
However, the rear wheel has a broken spoke so I took the bike along to a local old school bike shop and have joined the queue for a wheel rebuild. The guy there was very complimentary about the bike, enthusing about its originality and delighted that I didn’t just want a new wheel.
I also came across an interesting blog on vintage lightweights where I noticed the attached pic. Could it be the chain set is Nicklin Triangular?

Possible identification of my “limpy” stem? Although according to the advert it’s “continental” style!
Not quite sure that the proportions are correct, but it’s hard to tell comparing a drawing and a photo. Droop looks about right, slash cut rear, platform for the quill bolt and angle of the clamp are OK too…
