Interesting one this

This repainted size 19 frame with 98 Explosif decals was put up for sale for £100 on buy it now late one Wednesday evening and sold within 15 minutes. As it is repainted, it could easily not be an Explosif and the seller offered no evidence that it was one - I wonder whether the buyer knew for a fact what it was he/she was buying? I wonder how many of us would have taken the risk of going for it in such a short space of time?

In fact, all is well. It is an Explosif, and I think probably 1995. The first clue is that it has down tube cable routing, which dates it to 96 or earlier. Secondly if you look carefully at the head tube and main tubes, you can deduce from the head tube (13cms for size 19) that the top tube is c3.5cm deep and the down tube is c4cm deep - these large measurements prove that it has the Columbus Max biovalised tubes used on the Explosif from 95 to 97 and on no other Kona. Thirdly, the seller says the frame is 'flame red' which sounds rather odd as it is a silver colour, but I guess he means it was flame red before he had it painted silver. Which all points to it being a 95 Explosif.

But the bottom line is if the seller had bothered to prove that it was an Explosif he could have asked for more money, as it's quite an attractive frame IMHO.

No, I only just saw it whilst searching for something else - it was only up for 15 mins! Anyway it's just as much too big for me as it is too small for you!

As I say, maybe the buyer just took a chance. And there are still a surprisingly large number of people in the world that believe what people tell them.
