The front end looks the same as the 1993 Montana Pro rigid. I don't have the magazine any more sadly. It may be worth an email to KHS for more info, http://khsbicycles.com/contact/

I send them an email yesterday and just got an answer:

Hello Eef,
I have never seen your bike in person, only in a catalog.
Here is a scan from a 1993 catalog.

This bicycle was pretty rare when it was produced, and today probably even rarer.

Enjoy the bike!
Thank you,

So, it's a 1993 KHS Montana Team FXT..!

Not completely original (anymore?), as it is full XTR according to the catalogue, but who cares :D

Re:

Nice buy! Spotted that one also but the distance... Was more interested in the crankset. Have you ridden it yet? And how does it ride? looks kinda flexible to me!

Suspension looks a bit like the Fisher RS-1 in this topic.

Re:

Nope, haven't taken it for a spin yet, as I currently lack the tool(s) to tighten the loose headset..

But from sitting on it, it feels flexible indeed (my BMI is perfectly healthy, in case you wonder ;)...).

Re:

A quick update as I'm the owner of this frame now...

I have been doing a ground up restoration of this bike over the last few months. The reason the back end was flexy is the shock unit was broken, one damper shaft bent and the other snapped in two! also the mounting bolt had sheered off and been botched with miss matched parts and the bushes erm, bushed.

I have had the shocks stripped down, new shafts made, shock body refurbished 'one was ovalised', new seals, and bolts. New bushes machined and replaced the bolts. Springs painted and rear end polished.

The frame has been bare metal sprayed in a colour match blue (couldn't find the original code)

Parts going on the final build are...

NOS Spinner unicrown cromo fork
NOS Allsop Sofride stem
LX hubs with Syncros rims
Suntour Chainset
Suntour front/rear mechs
Suntour shifters
Suntour levers
Dia Compe cantis
Zoom Brahma bar
Ritchey seatpost
Ritchey seat
Ritchey tyres etc...

I have not slaved to keep the bike period, but done what I usually do and make a custom bike to my own tastes.

The bike will be finished by the end of the month and will be on show at Iconoclassic in August.

How will the bike ride? I'm thinking in a comedy fashion... and that suits me just fine!!

See you at the show.

al.
