Ever just bought a bike...

Or are we just a bunch of tinkerers that can't help it.
I've noticed very few bikes get sold whole on here and it can't always be a money thing, so do we just prefer to get grubby in the garage as well as on the trail?

bit of both for me, i like a project (got loads on the go at the minute) but i prefer to buy a complete bike particularly when in original condition.

my trek 9000 is exactly as it was the day i bought it. although i plan to put the elastomer shock back in it soon

other people very rarely set gears, brakes, saddles and bar positions to my taste, so as an abolsute minimum those get changed

usually fit my preferred pedals too, SPD's for mountain and Keos for road

Its like baking a cake but Man Style, we put all the ingredients together in our Man Caves, conjure up a fine two wheeled beast and devour it on the Trails, take apart, upgrade, swap, tune, we then repeat the above, its like a never ending quest.

I picked up my '98 Kilauea, cleaned and oiled the chain and have ridden it constantly since.

I have a set of seals for the Bombers that need fitting soon (like yesterday) but I'm enjoying it so much at the moment I can't bring myself to stop using it.

i think it is very much a money thing, sell a whole bike for peanuts and you get very little interest and a whole wake of vultures descend. split a bike yeah its hassle but you get back what you spent and more sometimes

Bought a 99 GT Tequesta off ebay for peanuts with a view to cannibalising for some of my projects.

All that was wrong was a rusty chain. Stuck a new one on and changed seat, 6 months later its still my daily rider. Didn't even need to adjust the gears/brakes it's solid.

I just removed the mudguards from my Overbury's and rode it the day after I collected it.
I did have to re-fit the original tires too thinking of it
