everyone is being a bit cagey about whats actually happened. there is video of a big explosion, but no one will confirm whats actually blown up.
They're still being cagey -- even Japan's prime minister reportedly lost his cool with the execs of the power gen company, demanding to know "what the hell was going on".

Channel 4 News has managed to get the opinions of some very knowledgeable people from the nuclear industry, and the consequences of not keeping those fuel rods submerged in water appear to be pretty terrifying...

if theyve got the radiation suits etc i would not expect them to die. really hope they sort this out asap,it will have a negative effect on so much more than just japan. :(

oh yeah that aswell :(
they have evacuated 12km(?) around the plants, and everyone has to stay in doors within 12-20km
not sure what its like today as it also said it had dropped again (at tokyo though i think that was)

Wow, how wrong was I? :( Just read on the BBC site that Tepco are saying that re-criticality isn't out of the question which is disastrous if they are referring to the storage pond of reactor 4 which seems to be the case although on the plus side they are close to re-connecting to the grid which should aid cooling of the other reactors assuming that the pumps are still working.

I only hope there is some way that they can regain control.
