I can understand tyres in F1 being "ruiined" by being flat spotted, but that's a long way from one skid on a bike.

both knobblies not slicks one marin lite had the treads ripped off along a 3 - 4" long section and is down to the carcass the same thing happened in two spots on the B drive as i managed to feather it before locking it up a 2nd time.

In my eyes tyres with bits of tread missing are not much use offroad nor even for show purposes and were binned - your standards may vary from mine

I'm a cyclist, car driver and motorcyclist.
All 3 populations have "members" who don't really do the others any favours - drivers on mobiles and with crap lane discipline , cyclists on pavements and ignoring red lights, motorcyclists doing wheelies and over-revving.

That's true, but only the cyclist is using a machine which isn't a lethal weapon in the wrong hands.

A careless cyclist might hurt himself or damage a car but a careless driver can kill several people quite easily. In 2009 2222 people were killed on the roads in the UK- how many deaths were caused by cyclists? I bet not even the last 2 on the end.

Fair point, but I think the thread was started about lack of consideration for other road users, rather than deaths caused, and my point was that the lack of consideration can be, and is, shown by a minority from each population.
Having said that, I rarely see a cyclist turning a corner, talking on a mobile whilst trying to change gear! And do all white vans have the indicators disconnected as they leave the factory?

Braking hard with the back brake always leads to skidding, learn to use the front brake better as that is where the stopping power comes from, couldn't tell you the last time I used the rear brake riding on the road, in fact two of my bikes (fixie commuter and polo bike) don't even have a back brake.

I trashed a tyre skidding - chain came off, locked the back wheel - it took off 4 of the knobblies leaving a huge flat spot, I still use it but it is interesting on loose gravelly climbs when the flat spot doesn't dig in.

Taxi pulled out on me this morning following the car in front, I braked in time with no skid - he waved to apologise then accelerated - I got a few lungs full of diesel smoke as a reward. Next time I'm hitting the Fecker.
