I don't think I could live without barends on a bike. :?

I used to think that way too - but I wouldn't go back to flat bars and bar ends now for all the tea in China.

Risers beat them hands down for nadgery, technical type riding and as far as climbing goes, well you just have to change /adapt your technique a bit.

I agree to a point.

My Avalanche came with risers, so I though "yea, I'll give it a go". And I agree, ragging through the single track they do handle quite well, especially for a little bit of air time.

But, after a month or so, I went back to flat bars, as for overall riding, IMO they are better.

After all, BITD risers flat bars were more popular for a reason

always use risers,i put bar ends on my work bike to see if i liked them,(after 10 years without) and it felt crap,so back to risers

can't ride without bar ends - tried it but feels like driving a car without a seat belt or cycling without a helmet....

have managed to wean myself off risers with barends though some of you will be glad to hear!!

Tried them, and went back to flat bars and stubbies. Risers belong on downhill bikes and I don't own one of them anymore :D . The kind of riding I do now most often is proper old school XC type stuff. My 'technical' (hurts when you fall off) days are over. I prefer rolling open hills these days. Mind you when the mood takes me I can manage technical descents quite happily with flat bars (at the kind of speed I'm confident at!). :D

I ride bikes with bar ends - my XC superlight race bike. Bikes without bar ends - my heavy duty winter bike with risers & my full bounce XC hack bike. Bar ends are great for climbing and sprinting out of the saddle but my other bikes are more suited to sit in the saddle and spin a small gear type climbing and cruising. I like both but each has it's own role.

i tried them once - look terrible but comfortable for spinning on road when you just want to change positions
