Eddy Merckx Frame Confusion Serial Number

Fwish21

Retro Newbie
So I bought this bike frame from a gentleman in Italy and I’m trying to figure out exactly what frame it is as I plan on repainting it or possibly even powder coating it. The frame has a lot of paint missing but no damage whatsoever some rust spots as well. The only numbers I see on the bottom bracket are 127 and the letter “z” on right side. On the left side is the number 3 and the letter “A”. Anybody have any idea on what this might be whether it’s a Corsa or a Super Corsa? I have also included what is left of the tubing decal. Thanks for your help.

There is also a thread here for interpreting the numbers/letters which is slightly different to the link above - https://www.retrobike.co.uk/threads/eddy-merckx-decoding-for-everyone.410031/

Thank you! I wonder if this was maybe a team bike of any kind? The serial # 127 seems to be real low from what I have seen. Thanks!

I have attached a few photos.

So am I correct to think that this is 2nd series Professional Super Corsa frame? If so, did they have Columbus SL or SLX tubing? I didn’t realize they actually made that many. Thanks again.

Yes, I have always found the link Dan posted above to work or be the most accurate when used against frame numbers where there is a known provenance. This link I can vouch for against my own frame direct from the factory against my own build card.

Your frame is a really nice one, the yellow is always nice but if it's in need of refurb then do it. They deserve to look smart. There are two really nice painters I know of in Belgium who restore these frames and they look amazing when finished. They do factory schemes in any style.
Best of luck with it

Jamie
