ECU remapping on a turbo diesel - pro's and con's?

i had a honda crv 2.2icdti 138bhp and had it superchipped to 175bhp.

completly transformed the car, take off was awesome, torque was something like 400Nm, and you barely raised the clutch and it would take off.

I've been offered a Van Aaken tuning box for £100 - sound like a good deal? Should I touch this with a barge pole?

I sold my 2.3 Turbo 9000 as I no longer got mileage expenses  hence the diesel.

Do you not get paid for business miles from you company?

Carl.

I manage to get 42 mpg out of mine on long motorway runs, but you have to stick to the limit and concentrate like hell to do so...but it's amazing what you can achieve if you try hard enough!

not any more hence the change

You do know you can claim back 40p a mile for the first 10k miles and 25p a mile there after from the inland revenue though?

Carl.

I was considering getting my car chipped until I heard of a fella who had his A6 TDi done and was using all the available oomph, his was a high mileage car... the turbo failed on full boost, the debris went into the inlet manifold and subsequently the rest of the engine. The repair bill was huge!

yeah the advance in power and torque will wear out standard parts faster......and these plug in boxes are not worth the risk either.

i ran my superchip tuned car for 10,000 miles but sold it on without any issues, though it did have less than 30k on it when i sold it, so was pretty new.

best off getting a ecu re-map tuned to the actual car, not something pre programmed.
